An Important Update for Our Clients

While the world evolves to manage the current pandemic, an extraordinary number of people are beginning to work from home, and businesses are making difficult decisions to keep their costs down. This creates challenges with respect to functionality and security and we want to share some advice on how to manage through it.

Most importantly, protect your business from malicious cyber attacks; we can’t stress this enough. Cybercriminals and state bad-actors don’t care that there is a public health crisis affecting us. What they look for are vulnerabilities and opportunities, and a large group of workers newly telecommuting is a very good opportunity for them. With your business already under stress it can be catastrophic to be targeted with a successful attack at the same time.

Here are some things you can do:

  1. Use a password manager to autogenerate random highly secure passwords for all of your sites.
    a. Remember one complicated password for your password manager, and avoid easy to breach ones for all of your other accounts.
  2. Prioritize patch Management – Ensure software is up-to-date.
    a. It’s critical to update your system with all critical Microsoft security updates, as well as updates for key 3rd party software.
  3. Enable Multi-Factor-Authentication (MFA) on all software that supports it
    a. No exceptions.
  4. Use Microsoft Teams – it’s free right now during the pandemic.
    a. See Microsoft’s press release here.
    b. Teams can make calls, chat, video conference, share files, set up meetings, & integrate fully with other Office programs (Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.).
  5. Maintain your security software up to date and actively running at all times.
  6. Use secure VPN software to connect your users to each other or the office.
