Business Case Study

Microsoft SharePoint

SharePoint migration can be a daunting task for any company. There are many things you need to think about, such as figuring out where to migrate your SharePoint server and what tools you need.

The Context

Two different clients, two different industries. Both previously migrated to SharePoint and hit a performance wall.

The Challenge

Briefly put, both companies were using SharePoint in a way that extended beyond its limits. As a managed IT service provider we were able to quickly identify the issues and propose the best path forward.

The Opportunity

SharePoint sites for both clients were performing slowly, and more importantly individual users were having syncing issues on their workstations. The user impact was one of frustration and an inability to trust the shared file environment. We saw the opportunity to re-structure the sites and both simplify and streamline the user experience.

The Plan of Attack

With our extensive IT Project experience delivering cloud migrations and Microsoft Office 365 migrations, EC’s SharePoint team identified the root cause early and architected a tailored solution.

But we don’t stop here, we also consult on the change management process and how to best deliver IT projects in the smoothest way possible. Our team worked closely with project points of contact to deliver in a timely manner, and within our quoted scope & budget.

The Delivered Outcome

Company A entered the process with an overloaded SharePoint site, and our IT consulting and IT project implementation led them down the path of creating a new hub site with 9 sub-sites. This allowed the document libraries to be appropriately sized, the file paths to not get too long, and centrally located these in an attractive “portal” style hub site. We added in some Microsoft flow to enable easy archiving, and our client was very impressed with the end result and the project delivery overall.

Company B also had an overloaded SharePoint site, and our solution here was different. Their additional complicating factor was a 3rd party program that was writing directly to SharePoint. We created a new main site for them, while consulting with them to archive significant portions of their data in an effective and accessible way. Keeping these libraries separate was a key factor in immediately boosting the performance of SharePoint.

The Takeaway

No matter what stage of your IT project, if it is related to cloud migration, cloud optimization, or Microsoft Office 365 migration, our team at EC has decades of combined experience with countless customized implementations and would love to help you get the best out of your technology investment.
