Becoming EC

As many of you may have noticed, we have been undergoing some changes this year. Not the least of which is a rebranding from Express Computers to EC Managed IT. We feel that this better reflects our core business and better communicates to you what services we provide. Stay tuned to see more of this evolution in 2020.

To give you an idea what we are focused on, our vision is this:

We simplify your life through unparalleled support and meaningful technology; our reputation belongs to you.

We stand by this statement and are continuously training and upskilling our people, and will be rolling out customer feedback options in the new year. Your thoughts, opinions, congratulations, criticisms, and general feedback are valued and appreciated; please share.

We are committed to having the best service of any MSP in Canada.

Community involvement

It is important for us to be involved in our community. We continue to support several important organizations such as Sources Community Resource Society, The Greater Vancouver Foodbank, and Softball BC,

In 2020 we will be taking on a new partnership and working with the Vancouver Whitecaps during their Week of Giving initiative. We are all very excited to give back to the communities we come from in a way that promotes wellbeing, health, and positive team-based activity.

Cybersecurity and you

As we enter 2020, Cybersecurity continues to be a critical area of risk for individuals and businesses. You may have read about the Lifelabs data breach and while it was close to home, it is just one of a vast number of breaches you don’t hear about.

Firstly, as an organization with the keys to your data, EC is fully committed to security and confidentiality. We are experienced in recovering from theses disasters and negotiating with data criminals.

We have also invested in becoming certified through Cybersecure Canada, a brand new government initiative to improve the cybersecurity of small and medium businesses. We expect to receive our seal early in the new  year as one of the first companies in Canada to complete this process. This audit has put EC through a rigorous review of all of our internal practices, processes, policies, education level, software, systems, hardware, and more. Do not put your business in the hands of a company that doesn’t value security.

Operationally we have added a new AV/Malware solutions to our toolkit called SentinelOne. This option is an evolutionary leap over existing solutions and one of the best software opportunities to protect yourself from ransomware and hijackware. Our Account Manager team will be able to answer any questions you have.

We also conduct criminal background checks on all of our employees so that you can have added comfort that our people can be trusted.

Of course, there will always be risk. Budgets don’t always allow for the best IT security solutions, forcing compromises. Security is also inconvenient by it’s nature, causing many businesses to accept risks to improve their employees’ workflows. This means that many IT solutions will be imperfect beyond our ability to control.

It is therefore mission critical that you undertake regular training of your employees to ensure they follow best practices. The vast majority of data breaches are through compromised employee credentials, and not through an insecure IT solution. Training people is the keystone of any good security policy. We can offer this training.

Staying ahead of the curve

EC is also investing heavily in our people. We have been growing our team and have added a new educational program to our employee benefits that will fund their continuous growth as professionals, beyond their regular training.

At EC our IT professionals maintain an extensive list of up-to-date technical certifications that we are always evolving to stay ahead of the industry. Our commitment to security means that all new employees will earn their CompTIA Security+ designation within their first year of employment.

We have also implemented continuous coaching and development programs for all technicians, which is almost unheard of in the MSP world. All in the interested of improving the quality of service your receive, year after year.

We are growing beyond just being an MSP and also becoming a Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP). This allows us to bring an expertise to your organization that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Final thoughts

Most importantly, we are thankful for your business. I am thankful for your business. We are dedicating 2020 to elevating the experience  you receive from all of us and I look forward to it.

Happy Holidays!
